Walking Wednesday August 28, 2024

The weather has been amazing lately, so getting my steps in has not been an issue. Also one night this week I was going to bed and saw I had exactly 11,111 steps. I don’t know why but that made me really happy. I am always amused by the little things.

I’m going to start listening to Jimmy Buffet’s A Salty Piece of Land this week. One last summer book I guess.

Walking Wednesday August 21, 2024

The good news about changing schedules is that I usually get to walk in different places. (Yes every time I have to go somewhere I am thinking is there a place for me to walk or read?)

This week I’m listening to A Requiem For A Mouse by Miranda James. I can’t believe I’ve read so much of this series. They’re good palate cleansers.

Walking Wednesday August 14, 2024

After the heat of July feeling like one long day it’s nice to wake up to something different most days in August so far. That said I can probably stop taking pictures of the clouds now.

I’m about to start listening to The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters for a book club. This is a new to me author so it could go either way!

Walking Wednesday July 31, 2024

Now that it’s “only” in the 90’s I’ve been trying to branch out more. This week I visited a nearby park that is known for its boardwalks. It’s so dry, but I still saw a lot of critters.

I’ve been listening to the second to last Cat In The Stacks Book - Hiss Me Deadly by Miranda James. What will I do for a palate cleanser when this series is over?

Walking Wednesday July 10, 2024

I’ve been trying to stick to shady spots for my walks, and also have been varying my routes to drop off books at various little free libraries. (Yes that is my copy of Murder Your Employer- I finally gave up. I’m sure this is a me problem since so many others have loved it, so I’m confident it will find a good home soon.)

I’m about to start listening to Babel by R.F. Kuang. I had a long wait for this one from the library. I hope it was worth it!

Walking Wednesday July 3, 2024

The weather has been all over the place, but the long days make it easy to get out and walk. It’s amazing that anything can survive this stinking heat and humidity but I’ve seen all sorts of flowers and insects plus a fox this week.

I’m listening to Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. This is a re-read for me and I’m enjoying it.

Walking Wedesday June 26, 2024

It’s been so hot here I’ve had to resort to taking 2-3 short walks a day instead of one long one. Everything is so dry. We need some rain soon! I read this morning that it’s been a month and that sounds about right.

I just started listening to Margo’s Got Money Troubles. This was one of my most anticipated summer reads so I’m really looking forward to it. I hope it lives up to expectations!

Walking Wednesday April 24, 2024

I’ve been sick (again) this week, so not much walking, but I did get out a lot last weekend for various Earth Day events. Pretty pictures here only, but I do have a good one on my phone of my daughter and I pulling someone’s rejected dining room chair out of a stream.

After Demon Copperhead I’ve been making my way through some shorter books. Right now it’s Eight Bears by Gloria Dickie.

Walking Wednesday April 17, 2024

I’ve been tiptoeing through the tulips this week on my walks. I’m trying to soak it all up. Any day now the weather will start trying to kill me again.

I’ve been making my way through Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. It’s great on audio, but dang is anything going to happen in this book?

Walking Wednesday April 10, 2024

We’re still in our honeymoon period here weather wise. It’s not too hot and flowers are everywhere. Summer’s coming though. Last night when I was walking I swallowed a bug.

After starting a stopping a number of audio books I finally settled on Camp Zero by Michelle Min Sterling.

Walking Wednesday March 20, 2024

It’s peak cherry blossom week! It’s really cold and windy too though so I’m kind of being a wimp about walking. I’m still walking, but it’s under duress.

I’ve been listening to Give and Take by Adam Grant. It’s a re-read for me, but some situations have made me want to return to it.

Walking Wednesday March 13, 2024

So a week and a half ago when I said I felt like I was coming down with something and I hoped it was just allergies…it wasn’t allergies. I am so sick of being sick! I’m better now though and I’m recommitted to my walks. Pollen aside this is just a wonderful time to walk in this area. Each day there’s something new blooming.

I’ve been listening to Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall. It’s a bit dated but still interesting.

Walking Wednesday February 28, 2024

I was hoping for more winter, but it looks like spring is here. I’ve been doing long soccer walks and some woods cleanups. People keep inviting me to cleanups despite my habit of walking away looking for a good walking trail.

I’m about to start Julia 1984 on my next walk. I tried to listen to the original 1984 and bailed, so we’ll see how I do with this modern version.

Walking Wednesday February 21, 2024

I spent some time in Charlottesville, VA over the long weekend. I walked more than I had in months which was a great feeling.

I’m about to start The Longest Line on the Map by Eric Rutkow. I’ve been in a bit of a slump so I’m hoping some good old geography will knock me out of it.
